Colombia regions with paramo ecosystem

Weather, Temperature and Precipitation

Ranges from 2°C to 10°C.

The high altitude in tropical places produces a special climate that can be summed up as "winter every night and summer every day". The weather changes and in the day you can feel all seasons.

It is unstable, cold, humid, cloudy and rainy, although there are hours of intense sun in the dry seasons.

Average temperatures are usually in the range of 2ºC to 10ºC. Although it presents sudden changes during the day that can exceed 30ºC. The paramos are very cold because there are located in high mountains (3500 and 3800 mts).

´ There is significant rainfall throughout the year in the paramo.

´ Even the driest month still has a lot of rain.

´ The approximate average precipitation is 2251 mm.

Animals and plants must adapt to these sudden changes in climate.

Location:

Most of the paramo are located in the northern part of the Andes mountain range.

Did you know that the largest paramo in the world is located in Colombia, 30 km from the capital Bogotá? It is the Paramo of Sumapaz.

Threats: Despite its importance and natural wealth, the paramos in Colombia are threatened by mining, the impacts of climate change, and agricultural and livestock activity. Also the potato crops affect the paramos because consume so many water and also they use agrochemicals.(cinep.org.co)sep 16,2015

Related concepts: That this blog is related to the concept of change  because with this blog we can change minds of people that don't care about the ecosystems ( paramos ) and we need to change that because we are affecting these ecosystems by doing forced migration, deforestation, and mining explotation. Another concept that is related is the responsability we need to be responsibles with the ecosystems because they are a factor of our live.
